A Letter From Your Newborn

Hi Mama,

I just met you, but not really, because I’ve known you all along. I’ve been listening to your heart and voice for a while now. I’ve shared your body with you, went through the birthing process with you, and now I get to share my whole life with you.

But Mama, I have some things to tell you. I’m just a little baby. I cry sometimes, and sometimes I cry a lot, but I’m not doing it to deceive you. I need something. I might not know what I need, but I’ll always need you. Don’t leave me to figure it out on my own.

Mama, I’m still learning how to sleep without the comfort of your womb. I know you’re tired, but being on your breast is where I feel most at home. Please don’t make me wait to eat, or get mad at me when I want to nurse for comfort. This world is big and scary, but you have the perfect place to make me feel better.

I won’t be like this for long, Mama. I know people will tell you to cherish this time, and I hope you do. I sure do, because all the things you’re doing for me now set me up to be a successful infant, toddler, kid, teenager, and adult.

I love you, Mama.

All my love,

Your Newborn Baby
